Welcome to La Tchavana, welcome here to the place where nature reigns supreme in peace and serenity. Our farmhouse is located at Alpe Metsan, in the municipality of Ayas (Aosta Valley) at an altitude of 2000 metres. A location which is more unique than rare, where the scenery and views overpower every thought and relax body and mind.

The La Tchavana farmhouse is easily reached on foot either from Barmasc, along the beautiful and easy Ru Courtaud path, which can also be done by mountain bike or on horseback, or by ascending from Mandrou on the path that offers a spectacular view of the Monte Rosa glacier.
While discovering Nature and our cheeses, it will also be possible to buy fresh products at the Alpe Metsan shop, with an extra special item available… our very own AGRIGELATO ice cream!
La Tchavana is located in one of the most stunning natural settings in the Valle D'Aosta region, simple yet modern. Our food is served in a wooden box that can be enjoyed either indoors or at tables in the middle of the meadow, guaranteeing a day spent amongst nature and with the flavours of healthy food.
Alpe Metsan, with its evergreen pastures, is the heart of the Bagnod family's artisanal production. Our herds of Valle d'Aosta cows and sheep feed exclusively on fresh grass and flowers, and are mainly active in the summer months.
This photo shows the “highest cellar in Europe”: a cave made of stone and wood from our mountains, where fresh water flows constantly from the spring to maintain the temperature and humidity necessary for maturing the cheeses. Ideal for storing and ageing our dairy products.

This enchanting place where the Bagnod family opened its ‘La Tchavana’ farmhouse in 1999, is one of the most charming corners not only of our region, Valle D’Aosta, but of the whole of northern Italy.
This whole venture was created under the banner of two noble concepts: Relaxation while spending unforgettable moments in the company of others, away from the hustle and bustle, with the possibility of enjoyable tourist activities related to food and wine and well-being.

A journey through the flavours of “healthy real” food. That’s right, because thanks to the mild temperatures, warm sunshine and green pastures during spring and summer our cattle and sheep can graze peacefully, giving us products that we can enjoy even in winter or autumn, each season with its own scents, colours and distinctive traits to admire and narrate.

The enchanting stroll along the Ru Courtod: an ancient canal with clear waters dating back to 1390 that flows from the Monte Rosa glacier, followed by an unforgettable walk through meadows and pine forests under the typically blue sky of our mountains. Or towards Saint-Jacques: where you can admire the Matterhorn.

“La cantina più alta d’Europa”, il nostro gioiello, il fiore all’occhiello dell’Alpe Metsan: una grotta realizzata con pietre e legno della nostra montagna, dove scorre costantemente acqua fresca che arriva dalla sorgente per mantenere la temperatura e l’umidità necessaria per la stagionatura dei formaggi.
